Dear Ones,
Today, our immediate family gathered in Savannah for the Committal Service for our beloved Mary Mallette’s ashes.
We planned this time together in July knowing we wanted some days to pass before we honored our family traditions in Bonaventure Cemetery at the Keller gravesite.
The sunrise was beautiful, the palms blowing easily outside the house, as we drank our coffee and prepared to travel the hour and half to Georgia.
We are staying outside of Beaufort SC at a home on the May River. Most of us arrived Friday evening. Ron, George and Jessie met us at 11:00am this morning and Karla came to be with us and serve as our celebrant. Her grace and kindness have sustained us during these sad and grievous days.
Momma brought beautiful music and Karla prayed with us. We celebrated communion and the life of Mary Mallette Jenkins Wood. We spoke of our love for her and how much we miss her. And, we do.
When you look at the pictures, please note:
Mary Jenkins Circle (not Drive, Road, Street, etc...)
Mary Jenkins Circle is on the way to the house we rented outside of Beaufort on St Helena Island. I have never, never, never....NEVER...seen a sign with both names Mary Jenkins. I mean, come on, how is that possible? We could have chosen ANYWHERE to stay for this weekend. As we drive in, there is her name and it is a CIRCLE.
“The circle is a universal symbol with extensive meaning. It represents the notions of totality, wholeness, original perfection, the Self, the infinite, eternity, timelessness, all cyclic movement, God ('God is a circle whose centre is everywhere’ Hermes Trismegistus).
The other picture shows that her ashes are buried next to our Daddy, Coach Robert T. “Bob” Jenkins. She is to his left and we will unveil her marker on or after July 7th, 2022. She is in good company ❤️❤️
The last pictures are taken in Bonaventure in front of the Savannah River listening to Andy Williams, singing Moon River. It has a sense of Southern Gothic drama. Not intended this way, but it does seem like a good scene, doesn't it? Our tradition of “visiting the folks” at Bonaventure has been life long. As this picture shows, the next generation and the generations to come will see it done as well.
As always,
Be Swift and Make Haste,
Love Love Love❤️
Meg
